White Noise - 35mm Dailies scanned with Scanity at Fotokem, Burbank
"White
Noise" is a novel by Don DeLillo, published in 1985, and adapted into a
film directed by Noah Baumbach in 2022 for Netflix. The story follows Jack Gladney, a
professor at the fictional College-on-the-Hill, his wife Babette, and their
blended family of four children.
The
narrative is divided into three parts, exploring themes of death anxiety,
consumerism, media saturation, and family dynamics in contemporary American
society.
Fun Fact: In the opening scene, many vehicles featured in Murray's crash sequence reel are from the 1990s and 2000s, whereas White Noise takes place in the 1980s

André
De Toth - Scanity Film Scanner Revives a Cinematic Legacy
The National Film Institute of Hungary (NFI) used DFT’s Scanity HDR film scanner
with WetGate to digitize and preserve André De Toth’s early film legacy. DFT’s
WetGate process is particularly beneficial for historical, potentially damaged
nitrate films, as it can effectively "remove" base scratches during
scanning, making the restoration process faster, more precise and also more
efficient. Andre De Toth directed five films in 1939 alone, including the spy
thriller Wedding in Toprin, and the
historical biography Semmelweis. De
Toth eventually made his way to Hollywood, where he became renowned for his
innovative use of 3D technology in films like House of Wax (1953). Celebrated
by directors such as Tavernier, Scorsese, and Tarantino, he was a pioneering
figure in film history, known for his adventurous spirit and mastery across
genres, from Westerns to film noir. Read
